At the heart of Awoke, is Buli Maliza.

Buli is a visionary who dares to go against the grain and who along the way keeps breaking both the visible and invisible barriers. She has vast experience in broadcast and print media with varied stints over the years including being the former Head of Acquisitions at the South African Broadcasting Association and the associate producer of the KORA Music Awards. Buli was the first black woman in Africa to found and run a film and television distribution company. She was also the first black associate publisher of ELLE and ELLE DECO Magazine in Africa.

AWOKE is an African lifestyle entertainment channel that will offer premium, original content, produced in Africa, by Africans. That celebrates and reflects African culture & identity.

It is a dynamic, vibrant experiment at the intersection of technology & creativity through African excellence and culture. We are on a journey to position AWOKE as thee leading TV channel that represents the best of what the continent has to offer its people and the rest of the world.
